The first annual Cinema Out of Your Backpack Festival was held on November 9, 2011 at the Caligari Cinema on campus of the Baden-Wuerttemberg Film Academy (Ludwigsburg, Germany).

33 filmmakers from 10 different countries have entered the best scene from their feature film idea. A shortlist of 12 Fiction and 5 Documentary entries has been voted by the online community. Based on this shortlist, the judges have picked an Official Selection of 10 scenes which were part of the Screening and Awards Show.

The winners receive prizes with a total value of $3,000 sponsored by Vimeo, Think Tank Photo, Camera Armor, Giottos, PANI and the City of Ludwigsburg.
