What the Judges Say
The story is pretty original and the montages are a great device. Funny moments. Good characters. An effective journey told in a short amount of time.
Story Pitch
Stuart Staal is your typical twenty-something. An overwhelmed underachiever, entirely unaware of what the world wants with him. He spends most nights at the bar and most days on the couch. He has managed to stay on his feet, bouncing between dead end jobs.
It’s not long before his carelessness gets the best of him. A series of poor decisions land him in the drunk tank, and a judge sentences him to volunteer at the Cedar Oaks senior home. After a rough start, he learns to enjoy the residents, and they begin to see some good qualities in him as well. The more time he spends at the home, the more his old life begins to fade. The nightlife, his friends, even his apartment. One missed rent check and an eviction later, Stu finds his only option is moving into Cedar Oaks.
All would be well if it weren’t for the incompetent building manager. Cedar Oaks ends up in the hands of a development company set on using the land for a shopping center. They need a miracle, and with Stu and his raggedy bunch of friends at the helm, let’s face it, they’re probably doomed.Christian Justice
